Cleaning the oven before baking and cooking is a good idea and we are approaching the year with a lot of baking and other food preparation keeping the oven clean is important because what has dripped from previous cooking, and old food residues that remain, often causes it to ooze and smell bad the next time the oven is used – which no one appreciates.
There are a lot of cleaning agents that are developed and marketed specifically for cleaning ovens. However, these can often be expensive, limited to oven cleaning and they contain substances that are anything but good for the environment and for you who use the product.
Clean oven with soap
There are lots of good cleaning tips and housewife tips about oven cleaning such as cleaning the oven with baking soda and cleaning the oven with soap and cleaning your oven with soap are the method we recommend. Soap is also gentle on your hands unlike many other cleansers, which can result in chapped hands and other reactions to your skin.
So if you want to clean the oven and also clean your oven rack and oven trays quickly and cheaply and without a lot of unnecessary chemicals and agents, follow our housewife tricks for a clean oven.
Clean the oven with soap, and you will have both a clean oven and money left over for other things:
- Remove all residues and other loose debris and all crumbs in the oven (you can finish by quickly vacuuming the oven).
- Grease the oven with soap.
- Turn on the heat and heat to 100 degrees.
- Turn off and let it cool.
- Then wipe off the embedded dirt with a damp sponge.
If you don’t have soap at hand, you can instead try using a deep plate with vinegar that you set in the oven at 50 degrees. Leave for 30-60 minutes and then wash clean.
Clean the oven if it’s stuck
If your oven is very dirty, the baking soda tip can come in handy: spread baking soda in the oven and then add vinegar (12%). Then let it bubble and sizzle for a while and then wipe it off with a cloth soaked in lukewarm water.
Baking soda contains bicarbonate, which can also be used in its pure form: make a paste of equal parts bicarbonate and water and smear the oven with this mix. Spray or put vinegar on the leaves so they start to sizzle. Let it stand for a while and then clean the oven.
Do you also want to clean your oven rack? Do this to easily and effectively clean oven grates:
- Grease your oven grate with soap and place it in a deep baking tray with water.
- Set the oven to 100 degrees.
- After it has been allowed to stand for a while, the dirt on the oven rack is usually easy to remove.
You can also clean your oven trays in the same way: grease your oven trays with soap. Then heat the oven to 100 degrees and set the trays for a quarter of an hour. Then you can easily remove the dirt from your oven trays, as the dirt loosens in the heat of the oven. So with soap, it’s easy to clean the oven tray.
Clean the oven door? There are many different housewife tips for cleaning oven doors, some use razor blades or an oven scraper, others use toothpaste to rub on the stains but the most common tip is baking soda and water. You mix one deciliter of baking powder and one deciliter of water in a bowl and stir, then you smear the mixture on the oven door and let it sit there for a while. Then you take a sponge with warm water and remove the batter and dirt. Completely without expensive and environmentally unfriendly chemicals, which are found in products you otherwise buy to clean your oven, your oven rack, and your oven door.
